BB.q Chicken Spicy Galbi Flavor
BB.q Chicken is a gigantic chain of Korean fried chicken restaurants out of South Korea. With thousands of restaurants across the world this chain is posed to become one of the worlds largest chicken spots. BB.q does not stand for barbecue like I assumed. Instead it stands for Best of the Best Quality.
Spicy Galbi is a very sweet thick sauce with some savory spices in the it. The sweetness is a bit overpowering and there is not a lot in the way of heat as the name suggests. However, you do get notes of onion and other Korean spices which gives the sauce some depth. I liked the flavor, but I found the main problem to be the consistency of the sauce. It was way too thick and felt like molasses on the chicken wings. It might be just the amount of sauce that was put on the wings but the consistency was a bit tough to deal with.
The chicken is ultra crispy and perfectly cooked. I think that it is one of the best pieces of plain chicken that I have had. The batter to meat ratio is a bit off as the wings are a bit small. You get a lot of fried exterior, which is a bit greasy, and a decent amount of wing. An order of ten wings costs around $14, so a bit high for the size of the wings. Overall, I thought the wings were a bit too sweet and the sauce too heavy. The crisp of the exterior of the chicken is outstanding and almost worth a trip.
